Arab bedouins did not cover themselves like they do now. Actually none of the Muslim women wore any hijab before the hijab ayah was revealed. You should watch the old Islamic shows. One thing I always picture in my head is when Hind bint Utbah, the wife of Abu Sufyan and mother of Muawiyah, told Jubayr ra’s slave to kill Hamza and bring him his heart. Alhamdulilah she ended up reverting to Islam but before that she was uncovered, she dressed like those Berbers. That is if the historical dramas are accurate.

Face veilings were worn in Ancient Greece, Persia and Mesopotamia by ladies to show that they are high class and respectable women. Even Anglo-Norman and Anglo-saxons had face veilings for married women of age until the 12th century.
