East African federation existed under the British East African rule.

When the countries got independence they continued with the union till Jomo kenyatta become greedy and destroyed the union.

East African federation existed under the British East African rule.

When the countries got independence they continued with the union till Jomo kenyatta become greedy and destroyed the union.

That wasn't a federation but a confederation.

They shared a railways system, a currency, a post office, an airline but the individual governments were still independent and they got recognized by the UN as independent

Even now I don't think they will become a single country, the rivalry between Kenya and Tanganyika (now Tanzania after uniting with Zanzibar) made them miss the first opportunity in the 60s and that rivalry has only gotten worse since
