Dugsi Macalims In our community

Why are Somali dugsi teachers so abusive? I remember I went to this dugsi back in grade 2, this macalim would beat the kids with a wire hard if they didn’t memorize their Quran or Duas well. He would put a pencil between your fingers and crush it so you could feel the pain. They will tell you to stick your hand out so they could beat you.

This macalim was crazy. I heard stories about how he pushed a handicap kid down the stairs because he didn’t memorize his quran well and the Mother accepted it as normal. I heard other stories about how he use to break Somali girls phones because they were texting “the wrong guy.”

I left the dugsi and went to this Yemeni/Ethiopian dugsi. They were so much better. They didn’t beat you and taught the Quran well. There was a basketball area where all the boys would play, the girls would be in their own section.

I swear Ajnabi dugsis are way better than Somali dugsis.

But yet the finishing rates are quicker. I finished it in 5 Months whilst in a Somali Dugsi, but when I went to a African/Ertirian one in Kigali, I did not finish it at all. When I say i did not finish, i mean that I never read it all before the end of a certain period!

parents beat their kids to instill discipline because they think that the kid is being purposefully rebellious- kids make mistakes because they want to, they should know better! You got a bad grade or went out late? its because your stupid and chose to!! don't blame it on peer pressure or bla bla

macalin has the same thought process, they shortcut to fixing the problem without seeing different perspectives or the root of it. (maybe the kid didn't have time or doesn't want to?) its lazy but works right then so they don't care that the same issue will keep reoccurring lol

another theory is that people who are okay with beating kids, violence, and having a moral status/ power choose to be macalins more. i think my old teacher falls into this category :yloezpe:

Not all ajnabi dugsis are equal. Go to a Pakistani one and you will feel a lot better than in a Somali dugsi.

I can relate. I used to go to a dugsi in Kenya. It started at 6am and ended at 6pm. There was one time when I didn't have my surahs prepared. I remember the Malin telling me to lie down on my stomach. He beat from top to bottom with a long stick. I remember limping the whole way back home. Keep in mind that I was seven at the time. Dugsis are brutal.

7 years old and you’re getting severely beaten? That’s crazy:faysalwtf:

Somali dugsi macalims need some training before they teach.

Seven is nothing. I remember a macalin hitting me when I was four. Dugsi macalins are abusive. They don't care about their students at all.

In America? In the UK, you could easily get the place shutdown by going to the police station.

The problem is, somalis have no sense of understanding nor do they deliberate on issues. They believe a child is a creature that has not developed mentally and hence will forget the terror inflicted on it. They don’t have a problem with this nor their parents. This is a reason why somali youth are very violent and uncomfortable to be surrounded by, they were raised with fear and will look on to finding a way to pass down that fear to someone else. You can never get angry at a child if you are an adult, they hit them because they indulge in seeing them cry and suffer.

Also, these ‘Dugsis’ are financial scam , I’m never sending my children to fishy middle-aged men with arab attire

I used to have a macallim that had a workshop full of uncut wood. He would tell us he was going to break but would actually sneak out to his workshop and cut down long pieces of wood everday. We could hear it too. He was a qabiilist too and would body slam girls and boys if they even breathed in the wrong way. Some maamo called the police one day because her daughter was lying unconscious on the ground when she came to pick her up. He went to jail for a couple of weeks and paid of fine and i think charges against him were dropped. Humbled him real quick :mjhaps::mjcry:

The teachers get hired based on previous performance.

The fastest way to get results is to beat the Surahs into them.

How else are you going to get kids who struggle to read basic novels to memorize the whole Quran in a language they don't understand?

Carry a scar for every juz I memorized. Forgot most of them immediately afterwards but the scars are forever :kendrickcry:

"Jibril did the same thing to the prophet when he taught him the quran,so its only a sunnah for me to whip the shit out of you.You won't learn if I don't." This is the reason I was given by the countless macalins that whipped my ass.

They were surprisingly telling the truth:cosbyhmm:

I finished the Quran when I turned 13.The whip has some sort of magical power that inspires you to try your hardest to finish the Quran:cosbyhmm:

May Allah bless that whip:rejoice:

Abuse is a good way to make thick head autistic kids to learn out of fear. 80% somali kids are thick headed. Our DNA evolved from just wandering the deserts and watching goats.
