Drought in Awdal

Ilaahey ha u gargaaro🤲🏾
Honestly, I think it will just get worse and nomads will be forced to move to towns, its already happening, the population of nomads in the past half century has been significantly reduced, on the short tern its catastrophic especially if these people cant get access to proper housing but on the long term it could benefit the somali economy overall, especially if these people can get access to formal housing and income

Droughts happen on a yearly basis. This shit is normal in Somalia at this point. Govt doesn't give AF.
Climate change is hitting us hard, there is nothing the government can do it barely controls any lands outside banadir and doesnt have the funds to help these millions of people, it doesnt even have the fund to run their small army against shabaab. SL and PL governments hand out relief packages to them as seen in the video but thats only a temporary weekly solution but SL also has a small program to give out homes in berbera to those who want to settle (around 150-200 homes ever 2 years)

If I remember correctly the only large scale initiative to give housing to IDPs was by big somali companies like Hormuud and Dahabshil, they said they would give homes to 1M IDPs by 2029 but that still leaves 2M IDPs, and there's gonna be a constant flow of IDPs as long as climate change and nomads are a thing in Somalia

As some Galmudug university professor said, nomadic life is a thing of the past it's not possible anymore in most of somalia due to climate change and overgrazing, nomads will have to settle and learn to adapt in the following decades, problem is there is no government to give them housing on a large scale like a normal functioning government would do
