Hargeysa ( PP News Desk) — The owner of Haldoor Hospital in Hargeysa and a former Interior Minister Dr Mohamed Abdi Gabose today criticised President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland for not taking the risk of Covid-19 seriously.
Dr Gabose: Khat is a transmission source of Covid-19
In an interview Gabose granted Horn Cable TV, the experienced medical doctor singled the policy not to ban Khat for criticism . “Some Khat chewers said they would wash the Khat but will they wash it with antibacterial soap? They will not” Gabose said. “Khat is main source of transmission given the number of people who will touch it right from the farm to the marketplace.”
Dr Gabose said more than three decades he was a Deputy Health Minister tasked with prevention of epidemiological diseases throughout Somalia. “The Somaliland committee appointed to raise awareness about Covid-19 has no instructions to tell people the Khat as a possible transmission source of Covid. Mr President both of us are among the vulnerable people” Gabose said in an apparent attempt to impress on President Bihi the risk of ignoring Khat as possible catalyst for spreading Covid-19.
Somaliland imports Khat from Ethiopia and Kenya.
