DUBAI: The head of DP World stressed on Thursday the company’s commitment to its investments in Somaliland, two days after Somalia reportedly said it was banning the ports operator from operating there.

Sultan Bin Sulayem, DP World Group chairman and chief executive officer, said that DP World will continue to invest in Somaliland in 2018, as part of up to $1.4 billion in planned capital expenditure for operations globally.

The dispute with the South African country began when Somalia said that a contract DP World has to operate in the breakaway Somaliland was null and void. But Bin Sulayem pointed out that Somaliland has been independent for the past 28 years and has its own agreements with several companies and countries.

Asked about a vote on the issue by the Somali parliament, he said: “It [the vote] doesn’t really concern us because the Somali parliament … can only make noise and put statements, but on the ground, Berbera actually has agreements with many countries around the world, with many companies, and it is within their laws.”

These niggas are trying to keep us poor.
UAE and Saudi Arabia have destroyed yemens potential. This is because of Yemens strategic position on the gulf, Saudi arabia redirected lucrative trade routes through Saudi Arabia instead of it going through yemen.According to the economist (repudiable ) UAE has been hindering ports in aden to reduce its trade , the result is more traffic going through UAE instead of Aden as no stop is needed in the latter. The Yemenis are also being divided over "houthi" and "sunni" lines even though the sunni Yemenis are closer in religious practises to houthis. The result however is a fragmented yemen along with more trade for Saudi Arabia and UAE.

UAE wants to exasperate the same cycle in Somalia, hence why Somalia refused negotiations offered by the Saudis. Many Somalis see this as a Somaliland vs Somalia issue but I see it as imperialistic actions by foreigners. The Banning of DP-World allows Somalia to simply do what Djibouti has done and shut down UAE ports. UAE has countered this through a military base in Somaliland, they will use Somaliland to defend UAE and their practises.

Walaahi it's sad to see how we have went from being a great ppl to being reduced to cattle going in which ever direction the enemy leads us, i wish i had not been born to see such a day when somalis are in such a bad position. We need more patriots so that we can stop begging arabs for money, they can't even hlep themselves without cadaan ass kissing and they even distorted the religion. Everything they touch turns to dust (no racism intended).

Even dp world knows somali parliment are just bunch of shittalkers that domt control nothing kkk

what Somalia doin is all about jealousy and qabiil wana control anotha qabiil disguised as somalinimo but these games dont fly any longer.what you gona see is Somaliland taking off the gloves and Somalia used to manipulating foreign countries into ill advised, blurred and treachery clan oriented military missions getting exposed....yes familiar as Siyad Barre hoodwinked the international community till to the end.Somalia's recent moves r a blessing in disguise for landers as you already seeing.
