You know Western Europe and the USA are very dangerous and smart. If they didn’t push Russia’s buttons with Ukraine EU membership and NATO encirclement of Russia. If they let the economy, trade and influence of Russia in Europe continue to grow then naturally they would have become the economic power and hub of Europe. Just look at the US gov statement on its opposition to the Nord stream 2 pipeline project

But Russia have been bogged down in Ukraine who are being supplied by NATO/US, and have lost the markets and exports they had in Europe.
