Such a Beautiful Language, the Af-Somali spoken in the Baadiye is my favourite but it does sadden me that Parents in the West don't invest in the fluency of Af-Somali amongst their kids.

siad barres government during kacaan era tried preserving Somali poetry by recording as much as he could and compiled it into recording and books .
wallahi we need people who can go into the badiyo and preserve as much as they could before it’s too late .

Create a Writing System that perfectly encapsulates and translates the monumental weight of our poetry?
You don't need to really worry about the recording and compiling part. The amount of poetry published in af somali is truly enormous. I'm talking thousands of books. It is the most common type of book publsihed honestly what we need more work done on is poetry from the more southern parts of Somalia and in af maay and the beenaddiri traditions.
What I think we also really need is more literary criticism and analysis/explanation of poems. Which is thankfully starting to increase.
No honestly the writing system works pretty well . It might need a few changes (there is even a book in af-somali by a guy proposing new orthgrpahic conventions specifically when writing poetry) . But the system we have now is pretty good. Believe me when I say the amount of interest people in somalia have in poetry is way beyond your imagination. Half the freaking interviews and videos people post in afsomali on YouTube have to relate either to somali oral traditions or poetry. These videos also routinely get hundreds of thousands of views. The "Nation of poets" nickname is honestly not a joke or an exaggeration. Being a poet in somlia is something people take very seriously. Stuff like literary gatherings and book publishing events (bandhiga buuga) happen all the time
