Does anyone believe Somalia is better off now without Siad Barre

All actions are judged relatively and despite the grievances held against him by a certain segment of the population does the action they took behoove the repercussions

In a sense it is, Development is now occuring all over somalia instead of only Muqdisho

But in a way it also is not, We are getting molested by our enemies, the kenyans and ethiopians

That development would eventually happened, Somalia would’ve been in the process of industrializing, now where still dealing with political instability and safety rather then economics

Been there, done that
I'm sick of people making excuses for this disgusting man. Whether he saved a kitten from a tree or found the cure for cancer is irrelevant, no amount of positive action can absolve the large scale genocide and suffering which he orchestrated upon countless innocent lives.

it wasn’t a genocide, that’s historical revisionism

Boqor of Boqors. The man your wife fantasises of.
Siyad barre has accomplished things no current President can ever dream off.

BUT he did order genocide on his own people which is inexcusable.

Communism is a disease. Whether we would have remained communist once the USSR collapsed is another issue, however, communists would have all the wealth and Somalia would end up being an oligarchy run by them.

Short-term, we're worse off without Barre but in the long-run, defeating the communists before they became too powerful to rebel against, is a blessing. If you think otherwise, look at China.

Edit: to answer your question, yes, Somalis are better off without Barre. Diaspora can come home to invest in new companies and bring Somalia out of the stone ages at lightning speed. All without communists seizing property because they want all the money for themselves.

You need people like me
Somalia was a shithole under his reign and it’s still a shithole today. Only difference is we’re closer to a democracy today than we were back then. How people consider a nation where for a solid education or health treatment you had to travel to one city, a successful nation is beyond me.

There was no genocide. We aren't excusing rebel groups bringing Ethiopian troops into Somalia and being used by them to rebel against their government. Treason is worse than the innocents getting smoked.

So you're not only degrading the victims by glorifying their perpetrator, you're denying the massacre ever happened? What if I told you I know people who were personally effected? What a disgraceful comment. Try looking at yourself in the mirror while saying that.

If you don't mind me repeating myself, there is no excuse for the massacre of innocent lives, many of which were children, there are civilian casualties and then there are War Crimes

I'm assuming those people who got "smoked" aren't from your region thus viewing them as lesser beings, which is why you somehow seem to rational their unjust murder. They're not from my region either but that doesn't stop me from feeling empathy towards dead children and it certainly doesn't make me want to exalt or dignify their killer and paint him as a national hero.

You got anymore of those drake emojis?

After the loss of the Ogaden the man became a massive piece of shit

But he's still better than what came after him, I'd rather have Siad than whatever the f*ck the civil war was.

I'm not excusing anything. You rebelled against the central government. What you expect milk and cookies? This narrative that Siad Barre hated clans when it was based on power not qabiil. There's two sides to a story and the third side is the Truth. And the rebel groups who worked with Menguistu don't deserve my sympathies. We just fought against Amxaaro few years ago. Our archenemies. Then you bring them to our degaans?

Sorry I'm cold blooded like that.

:wow:

Only qabiil blinded people and people whose parents or close relatives were warlords thinks it was a good idea to topple Siad Barre.
Somalia is now compared to someone, who's been in coma for decades.
Our only hope is halane colony to be a little bit humane and stop playing with our lives.
