Does anybody here have ADHD?

I recently came across a list of symptoms of inattentive ADHD and I have all of them… I’ve been called careless, forgetful, ditzy my whole life but I think it might just be ADHD. It would explain sooo much if I do have it. It takes so much mental energy for me to focus on anything 😭 literally almost failed uni because of it and I constantly feel burnt out as a nurse (a career that requires a lot of focus)

I didn’t even realize I could have ADHD because I’m not hyper, but it seems like with inattentive ADHD it has a completely diff presentation. Im gonna get a professional assessment soon and inshallah I can be treated 🙏🏽

Is there anyone here who was diagnosed with ADHD? When were you diagnosed? And how are you doing now?

I think many people mistake the shortened attention spans that are common today caused by internet addiction for ADHD. True ADHD is a serious neurodevelopmental disorder that significantly impacts daily functioning. Just look it up—it's not just about being easily distracted; it affects executive function, impulse control, and task management in a way that can make even basic responsibilities overwhelming.

If you managed to graduate school with at least average grades, hold down a job, maintain a livable space, and take care of yourself, chances are, you don’t actually have ADHD—you’re just dealing with modern distractions like the rest of us.

I think a lot of people perhaps mistake the poor attention spans we all have nowadays thanks to internet addiction for ADHD. Legit ADHD is a serious disorder that would make it quite difficult for you to function in the world. Just look it up on Wikipedia. It's an actual serious developmental disorder.
My symptoms have to be caused by more than just being chronically online though, because I remember being extremely forgetful and lacking focus even as a child. My mom would get so frustrated with me

But do you function normally in society? Normal grades? Not a flunk out? Can hold down a job? Don't essentially live in a horribly maintained living space? Emotionally very dysregulated? Real ADHD is serious stuff that can ruin a person's prospects at having any kind of life. It's not being distracted, forgetful and annoying to your hooyo sometimes.

What would you recommend to those who think they might have adhd but rather have short attention spans due to modern way of living. It’s hard to cut using your phone altogether due to it being important for your job, studies etc but it’s also hard to limit

I agree a lot of people think they have symptoms of adhd but in reality their brain and dopamine receptors are fried

Yes, I had inattentive ADHD and was diagnosed. I got the diagnosis last year, and I suspected I had it long before due to my upbringing. My psychiatrist put me on Vyvanse, and it helps me to stay on track with school and overall thoughts and not need to look away and do something else the moment I try to put my mind on a task. It was a total life changer for me personally. It doesn't magically solve your problems u still need to discipline yourself, but it makes things a lot easier.

I was diagnosed with it when I was a kid. My parents never informed me about it. Found out about it in old medical records in my mid 20s. Never suspect it lol

I was diagnosed with ADHD and ASD later in life and after I began medication it resulted in a complete 180 in relation to my grades and day to day life. I went from being held back after exams to immediately being able to do in months what I failed to do when I had years.

However, I still struggle with impulses, task management, selective focus and so on. It is more than a poor attention span that can be managed by regulating dopamine.

I often think to myself that pre modernity, I would have made a killing as the court archivist or the Somali equivalent of that autistic reindeer herder in Siberia that was a respected figure in his community due to memorising the genealogical and medical history of all his reindeer, but alas, I must make do with what I can.

I had a major setback in life but if I have to work seven times harder than the average person then so be it.
