Does America need/want a stable horn?

It’s clear they want to counter the Chinese influence in the region but they do want it to be stable?

Ofcourse they do, Horn of Africa is the new energy and mineral source in the upcoming decades.

It doesn’t need it and I doubt there is any real want either.

If Somalis establish a democracy they would probably be happy with it if they tried an Islamic republic, well we saw how that turned out.

Unstable divided horn is a region much easier to control.

Currently NATO is able to do w/e it wants and most it's regional activities are based out of Djibouti.

If there was a strong sovereign Somalia do you think they'd have even a fraction of the freedom they have in the horn that they have now?

The horn is just too strategic to leave to some conceited camel herders who would sell them out every other month or so.

They already tried to work with us in the past century but unfortunately our credit score with them is beyond repair.

Now their only option is to make sure that the region isn't used against them somehow.

Oh for those thinking they want our resources

Instability in the horn doesn't hurt them one bit. It actually helps. No local government to spy on their actions and sell the intelligence to their enemies.

No populist force that can kick their bases out.

Perfect place to run their global black trade ... i.e. sell & ship weapons or other illegal goods to proxies in the region and around the world.

If Doha is where all terrorist and warlords meet around the world then Djibouti is where they ship and trade their goods.

When it comes to the next global war a sovereign power in the region could easily fok up their plans through millions of way even if they're a weak power.

Since we already have an history of trying to play super powers against each other what's to stop us from doing it again?
