Do you think mentorship would be useful In somali communities?

Saw Madows talking about this and wanted to get some of y'all's opinions since we have a crime issue amongst young Somali men.


I feel like mentorship is only useful only if the kid is actually interested in wanting a mentor. Especially one that advocates for a certain career.

Like these Madows on twitter want single black professional men to return to the hood but a lot of the young dudes they want to mentor wouldn't be interested in the careers these niggas work in.

Like for example I had a few uncles that were college educated and worked in professional fields. As a kid I honestly thought they had a boring life because at the time I was only interested in cool shit. Like at 13 year I fully believed I would have been a WWE wrestler by the age of 25.

Also the only time I've had a black mentor was when I was in college and actually wanted help.

Personally I would recommend more programs that push poor and dumb 18 year olds into the military or into the trades.

I'm happy our generation of somalis will be the last poor ones in the west. Next gen will be raised by middle class somalis on average. We just need to fix our divorce issues now.

Crime in the somali diaspora aint nothin new its been happening for the past 20+ years

I know somalis who smoke infront of there parents. Then you have the druggie somalis and the prostitute somalis. The group home somalis and the somalis whos fathers left them for the second family.

Military conscription for a year or two will keep the boys of the streets at 18 when they probably didn't go higher education and got nothing to do but gangbang

We can’t compare ourselves to AA folks, their problem is much more complex then ours even though we have similarities.

Most somalis are still raised to respect elders, even those with no aabo. I consistently talk to teenager somali boys in my area, they all listen to me and are respectful. Granted, I have known them their entire life, but young somali boys especially those with no aabo would really benefit from good male mentors. My own aabo goes step beyond and talks to young somalis who he doesn’t personally know and vast majority listen to him.

Having good mentors and productive environments (sports clubs) for the young, fatherless somalis would probably result in 80% reduction in future gangbangers.

Rarely do fatherless somali boys who end up in crime have mothers who were ok with their criminal behaviour. They got their ass beat severely and after countless warnings, usually kicked out of the house by 16-17 years old. This is the main difference between us and AAs. The boys are born into a truly dysfunctional environment and a home. The ghetto has been a ghetto for 40+ years while for us, we better end our shit before that happens to us.

You're bang on the money sxb. I did the whole "mentorship" bollocks for some apprentice at work. The age gap between us was less than 10yrs, but it felt like I had to constantly dumb EVERYTHING down. I only did it for career advancement but I wanted to strangle the empty headed cünt within 40mins of talking to him, I can't imagine doing it for altruistic reason.

Mentorship, education and discipline will get a sub 90IQ mouth breathing, fucking imbecilic retard-brain so far in life wallahi. Sometimes what they actually need is a good dharbaaxo with a couple suun lashes added for good measure
