Do you support Hamas' strategy?

As we all know, the reason why Hamas has choose to drag out its war against Israel is to weaken public support against Israel and make them look like they are doing genocide and war crimes, which so far it seems to have partially worked. Specifically, look at how the US has gone from “Israel has carte blanche” to “we’re going to sanction settlers and tell Israel to chilll out publicly” over the course of ~4 months. That’s an enormous policy shift, one that was unthinkable a decade ago, and has the limited foreign support Israel possesses steadily eroding.

I personally think Hamas was hoping they’d have more overt support at this point, but it’s important to remember that these organizations are very resilient. Hezbollah is a good example of how they can be pulverized and still wind up stronger than ever a generation later Israel’s stated goal of destroying Hamas will be difficult to achieve. Hamas is waging a PR campaign with periodic outbursts of extreme violence. This was always a probable outcome for them. They knew this. They want to be the anvil that Israel breaks against. They know this requires taking blows.

So I guess the fundamental question is: do you support this strategy? Gaza has been seeing unprecedented levels of causalities and destruction which to many observers is proof that Hamas is intentionally endangering Palestinians and giving Israel justification to continue their campaign but I want to know what you guys think.

In my opinion it depends what is the palastinian thinking about this if their sacrifice is worth it to bring about change. There are obviously palastinians who are not willing to die over this and have left or are leaving but there are also palastinians who stay in the land no matter what

Didn’t Trump remove the sanctions imposed on West Bank settlers? He basically gave them carte blanche as far as I’m aware. But he’s under heavy pressure because his MAGA base is becoming more openly anti-Israel and anti-Semitic. With Trump being the impulsive buffoon that he is, it’s hard to predict if he will pivot ,he’s unpredictable.

I don’t think Hamas had any elaborate plan or strategy behind their actions either. Bishara Bahbah, who mediates between Hamas and the U.S. government, said they were caught off guard and didn’t anticipate the scale of Israel’s brutal response.

Hamas is split between its political and military wings. The political wing has already announced multiple times that it is stepping away from governance in Gaza. Abbas, the head of the PA, even said the same thing in his speech to the UN this week and he wouldn’t have dared to confront Hamas like that without the consent of Hamas’ political leadership.

But the real problem is the military wing. It operates autonomously, ignores the politicians, and holds them in contempt.

Most likely, it will morph into a guerrilla organization similar to the IRA or ETA.
