You take it in your first year as pre-requisites, then for the next three years you study your actual major and for your final year you do an internship or placement.

so a degree takes four years? i assume the first year is pretty much a way to extort more money out of you guys.

A bachelors degree takes two years, an associates degree takes two years. The first year is called general requirements such as English 101, Math 101, etc. but you can waive it if you take college level classes during high school.

Tbh a degree will usually take more than 4 years, you will run into stuff like enrollment issues due to too many students trying to get in into the courses, you also need to take 5 courses per semester to graduate on time which most people don't do. Some people also land on academic probation and have to wait a couple semesters to take courses.
Haven't met anyone that actually graduated on time in exactly 4 years.

that's some messed up system. no wonder you guys leave with obscene amount of debt.
we just spend three years to get our degree or four years if you want to incorporate masters. it's definitely a much better system. probably a lot cheaper too.
