Cultural appropriation in of itself is not an issue, like for instance it's fine to adopt & add a twist to some nice dishes from a foreign cuisine or adopt something else that is helpful/practical from a foreign culture.

However, the imported foreign culture shouldn't replace the defining aspects of your culture.

Somalis claim a lot of foreign dishes and cultural attire as their own its crazy.

There is not a single culture that exists today that hasn't gotten something from another culture, whether the culture is extinct or otherwise. So no, cultural appropriation is another buzzword for gate keeping something that you think belongs to you and you alone.

We don't appropriate Arab culture, we adopt them. To appropriate is to steal. We don't claim the Arab aspects of our culture and everyone knows that they are arabic, which helps the Arabs rather than hurting them.

Culture appropriation is wrong for the same reason stealing is.
