Do Somalis even deserve to have a state or country?

Perhaps we need to abandon Somali nationalism? Never in history have we formed a state based on Somalinimo, that much can be true. But on the other hand, we formed states with Hararis, Arabs, Afars based on our ties in Islam and our common threat of Christians.

The Soviet Union used us and made us fight Ethiopia, they supplied us and gave us weapons and knew that it would be used to fight Ethiopia. All so they can get a foothold in Ethiopia. We were fooled. The war was disastrous.

If there is no nationalism then what is the point then . Isn't nationalism the corner stone of a nation .

Tfw Ajuran was a hydraulic empire but geeljires today can barely dig a well without european help and are still using kacaan era wells

You could argue the Somali "Dervish" state was based on Somalinimo. Even though they lasted for a short period of time.

Yes but we are the only ones failing at it . And now it exist in all of the world .
I don't think so. The Dervish state was based on Islam, the Sayyid saw the mercenaries converting Somalis into Christianity and he also was angry that these Christians were taxing people in Berbera port.

The Adal empire was based on Islam, and had many ethnic groups though it was dominated and led by Somalis.

The Ajuuran empire was based on Islam, and had many ethnic groups thought it was dominated and led by Somalis.

This overzealous sense of nationalism and loving your ethnic group is a European concept. We were defeating the Portuguese in naval battles, the only hydraulic empire in Africa, but now we are a failed state getting colonized by third world countries.

Your superior
No offence but you can't have a united country when some of the citizens look after their own interests while others look after the interest of everyone

"Goan Bogame is situated in the Las Anod District, near Gubyaley. It contains the ruins of a large ancient city with around two hundred buildings. The structures were built in an architectural style similar to that of the edifices in Mogadishu's old Hamar Weine and Shangani districts."

I just want to know what caused us to abandon civilization in favour of camel herding. :lawd:

I agree with the earlier kingdoms being united primarily by Islam. However, there was an element of nationalism in the Dervish movement, since he was fighting only for Somali muslims & used Islam as a unifier to mold all the different qabiils into one fighting force.

As for nationalism itself, i'd agrue its not a purely European concept. Many other races & cultures that have a history of being a nation-state, such as Iran, China, Abysinnia e.g. have utilised nationalism to maintain their independence & wage wars against foreigners. The Europeans just perfected the art of nationalism when they began modernising in the 19th century.
