Djibouti people don’t consider themselves somali ?

Somalia is seen as a shithole by practically everyone, theres no wonder why they don't want to be seen as somali.. Even when I went to Djibouti the somalis there got extremely angry when I called them somali

I have seen one on this site that is a Somali ultranationalist. But for the greater population, prolly not, its not hard to believe that they refer themselves as Djiboutian. I don't think any westerner knows where Djibouti is located so no stigma toward them. Never met a Djiboutian in real life so my opinion doesn't matter.

If they’re Somali then they’re nacas

They would be Somali dijboutian
You’re dijboutian by nationality not ethnicity

If they ain’t Somali then it make sense but they’re stupid still cuz you can’t be dijboutian ethically Wise
Funny thing the guy said this Is dijbouti food then they said Somali food 😞

Those are most likely Afars, can any Djiboutian fill us in?
Tbh it’s hard to say. Not sure if they’re Afari. To me they don’t look Afari and they look Somali but who knows maybe they’re Afari.

Somalis in Djibouti consider themselves Somalis but we’re Djiboutian as well. Not sure why it’s soo hard to comprehend that.

A hint to determine an Afari is that they claim Ethiopia and Eritrea as well. That is considered part of the Afari triangle. Usually it’s easier to tell when they’re Afari because they have sharp features and straight jileec hair with their dark skin.

I have spent some time in Djibouti for work and I found the Somalis there very welcoming and proudly Somali. They even forced the Afars to speak Somali especially in the capital.

Of course, they have their own Djiboutian identity and culture but I found them to be positive towards Somalia.

Hormuud has recently started investing heavily in the banking and real estate sector in Djibouti with many big property projects springing up and there is an influx of Somalis from Somalia now working for them in Djibouti. Many of these employees earn good money in dollars and they have boosted the local economy. My experience was that Somalis from Somalia are seen as enterprising and well off by Djiboutians.

Good times

I don’t think they’re somalis. most djiboutians who are afar will want nothing to do with or identify with somalis

Hmmm that’s true but they would claim Djibouti. The food they eat is Somali lol and they were our diraacs as well.

Personally, whenever an ajnabi would like to know where I’m from I always say I’m Djiboutian Somali. I always claim both but idk with these girls…

That’s a lie as well loool I bet more than half of y’all have never met a Djiboutian in real life! I can’t tell by the way you guys talk about us.
Ngl, I didn't even know a great portion of Djiboutians were ethnic Somali until recently. I assume you are a diaspora, is there a big diaspora outside of Djibouti?

I wouldnt say huge diaspora because were a small population in Djibouti. But most of the Djiboutian diaspora are in France, Belgium, Canada ( mostly in Ottawa and Montreal).

Djibouti people are complex.... They are made of many identities. If they claim somali that's cool. If not, then that's cool. In today's world Somalis are becoming more complex
