Divergence of population growth in Africa

Africa has seen a fairly large divergence in the rate of population growth over the last 92 years. Using the colonial 1931 census;

Libya had a 10x increase
Eritrea had a 6x increase
Somalia a 14x increase

Kenya remarkably had a 18x increase. 3m to 54m from 1931-2023.

Somalis in Kenya have been growing at 5% per year over the past 70 years.
I have never seen another population grow at such a rate for so long.
Only thing that explains it is in-migration from Ethiopia and Somalia.

Electoral competition between the Garre and Degodiye in Mandera, the Degodiye-Ajuraan and Degodiye-Ogaden in Wajir, and within the Ogaden in Garissa has lead to in-migration from Ethiopia and Somalia into Kenya.

The Kenyans really f*cked themselves when they refused to allow NFD to join Somalia after the referendum. Now they have Somalis, who cannot be assimilated due to Islam, rising to become the largest ethnic group in the next few decades. Greed is not good. Jomo Kenyatta was a stupid man.

I prefer small population over large ones because they are simpler to manage and better able to meet needs. Small populated nations tend to be wealthier and have higher standards of living than more populous ones. I don't want Somalia's population to exceed 20 million because even if you have the richest mineral resources, you will always be poor due to large population, but if you have a smaller population, there will be enough for everyone to live comfortably.

the most developed societies are well into their demographic transition so people correlate low birthrate and small population to civillity but thats stupid

europe, japan and russia developed and expanded using their relatively huge population, 1800s europe had a TFR of 7 they had waaaay more people than africa back then

The main reason they developed back in those days was because they had large population/labor to industrialise themselves.

Even if you a poor country it's better to have a large population so you can attract foreign investment and slowly start development and then later down the line become a Powerful country.

Emigration is a big part of it. A lot of Eritreans still haven't returned from Sudan after fleeing during the ghedli. National Service has also had deleterious effects on our fertility rate (since both men and women participate equally)

I was thinking about the national service as well that would take up peoples prime time to start a family since it’s between ages 18-40 and can be indefinite service

Somalia will never be self sufficient in food resources, we should give this idea up. With our water resources, we could have been self sufficient at our population 40 years ago.
