They'll ask for your payslips for X amount of years (since the last time you paid) and then they'll calculate it. You'll then get a stamped invoice with this amount that you take with you to Eritrea (it's been illegal for the embassies/consulates to take remittances for a while)
It seems very sophisticated and coordinated, lol. Even though I personally view it as extortion to tax foreign residents, I find it intriguing that only Eritrea receives backlash, when the US does it too, the only two countries to have this tax system. The US even requires you to pay a hefty tax when renouncing your citizenship. Anything gets taxed there
