My area is predominantly Isaaq so there wasn't any beef or anything even if there were some other clans no one hated them or excluded them.

Grew up with every clan. We all went to the same dugsi and all the aunts mixed, took each others kids to dugsi and school if one is ill or very busy and I grew up with my family befriending habayars from both the South, North, East ect.

One thing I’ll say about Somalis is that whilst many are qabilst, it isn’t doesn’t impact friendship or mixing with other Somalis. Also, all my friends are marrying across clan lines. It’s hard enough finding a Farax that ticks all the boxes so limiting yourself even more based on tribe is dumb as hell.

From my experience most kids in the west don't even know their qabiil and if they do don't show interest. It's only when they are older and wanna recconect that they start learning
