I've noticed, not just with Somalis, but with all immigrant communities, Chinese, Mexicans, Indians, etc, those born outside or in the west tend to critique their own culture a lot more, calling it toxic, etc.
Of course, a lot of the time, they're right, but that's not the point. Why do y'all think 1st gen children of immigrants tend to critique their own culture more? Is it because they grew up in the west and that kind of set a basic standard of what their culture should be?
And of course like I mentioned, this seems to be universal, across all immigrant communities.
And I've also noticed, the more left or left leaning they are(i.e those who put pronouns in their bio, Socialists, etc) they tend to critique their culture even more.
I think that this is because immigrants communities tend to be conservative in values, but vote for the left leaning party because the right wing party usually doesn't want them there in the first place.
