I do think execution for accidental death is too severe a penalty. However the judge has made his decision and that should be respected. If they disagree then a peaceful protest is fine but not violence.

The killer deserves at least 25 years in prison, a lesson needs to be taught, that security guard cannot just shoot without any real justification.
If it's accidental murder I agree but if it was intentional I say Burn him.

I agree with you but my problem with this case is that the man is taking the fall for his superior. Nothing happened to the guy who gave the order and that is bs. It's basically half assed justice for Siraji

You're right that they have every right to protest but the worry will be what happens when the execution goes through. Inshallah there won't be violence afterwards and the people with grievances mobilize themselves politically instead of violently

From the sounds of the information reported in the press, I don't think it was intentional. However only the judges heard all the evidence. Perhaps they have good reason to believe it was intentional. In that case I agree that he should be executed.

To be honest, no body besides the judges have seen all the evidence. If the family or lawers of the killer suspect unfair sentencing then they can appeal the decision . They should got through the process that's in place.

Let's be honest though, they are only protesting for qabil reasons. If the killer was say a bantu then they wouldn't bother. This business of blood money should end though. Blood money does nothing to rehabilitate the offender or to deter future criminals. All the blood money system shows that those with a big qabil can get out of being punished for their crimes.

I was thinking that too, murder for an accident is unjust.

@Asma is right though idk much about the case, maybe there are things we don't know.

The whole situation is very sad.

Wallahi what you said is true but we have to keep in mind Somalia's nascent justice system. The process we have in the west won't be applicable in Somalia.

It'll end once Somalia transitions to a credible justice system. Imo the bigger issue facing Somalia is the extrajudicial killings.

Our situation isnt easy. When people are blinded by qabyalad and hatred. cant se beyond their nose tip. Its messed up. Seriously what do we expect when we recruit "former" terrorists to our police force and army.

LOL@it wasn't intentional. Anarchists always make excuses for crimes. They guy that killed minister Siraji aimed directly between his eyes and didn't waste another bullet to kill him. Maybe he didn't know it was the minister, but the killer's intention was clearly to kill the driver.

Literally a headshot. There was clear intent to eliminate him.

* IF it wasn't intentional as some people are saying. If it was he deserves the sentence.

and the man who gave the order gets away with house arrest and only losing his position

The man who gave the order deserves at least 15 years behind bars imo. The judicial system in Somalia needs improving I'm sure. However, the way to do it is through peaceful protest and lobbying the government for change. Senseless violence and crime is savage behaviour, that does nothing for society but cause harm.

With overwhelming evidence such as this I think capital punishment is okay. We're not in a position where we can afford to spend money on a killer for 15 years.

It is expensive to keep a prisoner, you are right. Also, Somalia has come out of a state of lawlesness for 2 decades, maybe harsh sentences are needed right now. I don't know to be honest. Like I said the judicial system in Somalia needs a thorough review. However, which system in Somalia doesn't need a thorough review; every sector: agriculture, urban planning, transport, health care, education needs a review.

The task of the Farmaajo/Kehyre government huge, and they can't do it alone . All Somalis need to do their bit I suppose.

I was wrong the former auditor general didn't even get house arrest but you're right in your last post that for a country coming out of the ashes it'll be a slow gradual process and it's not worth to tear it all down
