Ethiopia has been in Gedo for over 30 years, I don't see any Daarood protetesting against or any kablalax protesting against the kenyans in Jubba .
Foreign troops are in the South due to the civil war that happened in the 90s and the terrorist groups that are still operating today. Most of the foreign troops deployed in the south are there because of the African Union and the United Nations
Even with all of the foreign troops in the southern states, none of them are building military base that they plan on leasing for several decades. Matter of fact, there already were thousands of foreign troops who left last year. There are even more who are scheduled to leave by the end of 2024
Although Puntland does have some degree of terrorism, it is not to the level that exists in the south. If you can show me a foreign country building a long-term military base in Puntland, that would be a better example. Unlike Gedo, Puntland's situation is more similar to Somaliland
Why not? If other tribes can use foreign troops to hold their kursi why can't muuse bixi do it too?
You mentioned Gedo, so i'm assuming that this is a reference to Ahmed Madobe and how he collaborates with the Kenyan military to maintain power in Jubaland. People did criticized Madobe, and the federal government even tried to remove him from power. Neither of these things worked
In 2019 The FGS expelled the Kenyan ambassador and administered a blockacde on the Kismayo port and airport. This negatively impacted thousands of innocent civilians who had nothing to do with this political fight
The truth is Madobe was able to hold on to his "kursi" as you say not because people like him, but because he won. As I pointed out above, the FGS tried to remove Madobe from power during Farmarjo's term. The reality is, they failed
In 2020 Ethiopia was caught sending non-AMISOM soldiers to Gedo. It's believed that Farmajo asked them to do this as another attempt to put pressure on Madobe. This caused a lot of backlash and created many diplomatic problems between the FGS, Jubaland, Ethiopia, and Kenya
So when you say that there wasn't any backlash against the Ethiopian or Kenyan troops in Gedo, this simply isn't true. People have criticized Madobe's relationship with the Kenyan government, while others have criticized Farmarjo's relationship with the Ethiopians
Now your deflecting, this thread was about the deal and thats what ive been talking about, also SSC and Somaliland and all that, I don't have enough information nor the knowledge to speak properly with you on it
This isn't a deflection. The reason why I don't like the presence of a long term foreign military base in SL is simple. I am worried that the military base that will be built there will be used to attack the people of SSC. As you said, nobody should expect these regions to leave easily and I am afraid that adding Ethiopian soldiers and weapons will only make this situation even worse than it already is
Unlike SL's deal with Ethiopia, the foreign troops in Somalia all have an end date. However this military base that will be built in SL will be there for several decades, and the truth is nobody knows if Ethiopia will even leave once their lease expires. How do we know this won't be a Russian-Ukraine situation were the much larger country decides that they will want to keep the smaller country's land?
I know that a lot of the criticism for this deal is cuqdad ridden hypocrisy. But not everyone is viewing it that way. If you look at the facts that have been reveled to us so far, this is objectively a bad deal that will create even more instability in the region. Only the Ethiopian government will benefit from this deal
