Drinking is common among even the 40s and above. The amount of hooyos I have seen going into the LCBO (government liquor store) or The Beer Store is too much to count that I just stopped counting. Garbasar and everything. My childhood friend even told me he saw our childhood friend's hoyoo pass the abo a Heineken while he was watching sports. It's so common that even gaalo know Somalis drink. A coworker dropped off Christmas gifts to me this morning and it includes alcohol and I don't even drink. I'm going to give it away. He went to university with Somali friends which is possibly where he got the assumption.
Social drinking is the least of the community's worries. There are bigger problems. How about the huge khat use in the UK? Children there don't have relationships with their dads because of the khat. You cannot marry people who did not have a relationship with their khat addicted dads due to the trauma they faced. They will bring generational trauma to their kids. How about in Sweden where they throw grenades? How can you marry them or their siblings? Or the terror supporters of Minneapolis? Millions have been raised in Minneapolis for Al Shabab. You would be a fool to marry them. Hehe.

Iām shocked, Iāve never seen a somali drink and alhamdulilah no one in my family drinks nor do I. People in the comments acting like their arenāt hella younger somalis that donāt drink/smoke. Reer Djibouti are next level. I have so many stories about Reer Djibouti but I'll be accused of being a qabiiliste.
Sure both are bad if abused, but one is openly accepted by Somali society and muslims with even women chewing back home and in Europe. My point isnāt to encourage anybody to drink, but just think a little more critically.
Alcohol is the drug of choice in the west, but Khat is the drug of choice in Somalia and does more damage.
