Is a terrorist gonna attack a small town?

No. They attack large, metropolitan, big statement places.

London is one of those cities.

It has to be prepared for the worst case scenario.

Stop digging to China.

I listed cities that are even larger than London. Who is talking about small towns (even though terrorists attack small towns in Europe all the time, especially in France)?

Can’t have it both ways.

Either you support the underlying premise of the Defund the Police movement or the Tories are incompetent.

Defund the Police advocates are always poor folks who live in ghettos or those communist whites with pink hair who suffer from white guilt. No one else.

I have a slogan to hit those ghetto people where it hurts: Defund Social Programs.

Hehe.

Dude, read the second paragraph of the article.

Incompetent Tories strike again.

:russ:
Quite funny there, shifting the blame on the Tories, when it was due to his mismanagement of TFL. Government have every right to object and decline, with such bullshit....

"TfL has been bailed out twice this year by the Government after the level of debt skyrocketed.

In March the transport network received a £1.6billion bailout from the Transport Department.

A further £1.8billion support package was agreed in November."

The head of TfL blamed the declining revenue caused by COVID.

You know, the mismanaged lockdown situation in the UK.

COVID is a factor, but TFL had been in financial troubles for quite sometime.

For the 2nd part, mhm, vaccination made up for this error to be fair.

Tbh, vaccination is nothing when the UK spent most of 2020 and half of 2021 in lockdown.

Obviously, a business that relies on lockdowns not existing will be harmed.

They have emergency funding until December. The question is: What next?

You can't blame everything on Sadiq Khan, especially not TfL failing. TfL has been struggling for a long time, for a number of reason:

- Cross rail is way over budget, and still hasn't opened. It's £4bn over budget, and due to open 4 years late. This started more than a decade ago, so kinda hard to blame Sadiq

- London underground is one of the few in the world not to receive gov funding to support the operating costs of its transport. Instead, passenger fares fund it, hence the expense.

- Gov axed a £600m grant in 2018. I doubt this would happen if the mayor was a tory.

- Passenger numbers were dropping even before covid-19. Covid-19 has obviously made the situation even worse. TfL revenues dropped by 90% from March 2020-Oct 2020

- Sadiq Khan did promise a fare freeze, and this has bought back more people to use the public transport, but has probably led to lost revenues of £600m. Obviously this isn't good.

Source: Why Transport for London's finances are far from healthy

TfL has been struggling for a long time, and I don't think the incumbent mayor is the major issue. I think TfL will continue to struggle for a long time.

TFL was set to make a profit before the pandemic after Sadiq sorted it out. Boris however left a massive black hole

Really? this is news to me. That would be a major achievement. A lot of long term issues still need to be addressed however

It’s called a carbon tax, it’s actually promoted by most economists.
I agree with your point, but I don't that's the reason for the ULEZ.

I believe the main reason for ULEZ is to reduce dangerous NOx gases, which cost the city over £10bn a year, and about ~4000 deaths a year in London.

Why do I see an idiot blaming crime on Sadiq Khan lmao. The Tories sacked half the police and cut council budgets and youth services?

Crime consistently lowered under New Labour and continued till austerity started trickling down to a breakdown of society.

Also THE ULEZ is good policy. We should expand it to all of London and encourage public transport instead of cars. Pollution used to be killer here, alx it's improving. Carbon tax the WHOLE COUNTRY in fact.
ULEZ makes our lives harder especially when Uber Drivers have to bear the brunt of it

That notation of "less officers, more crime" doesn't work, if austerity started in 2010, and Boris was Mayor then, and as stats show, crime rate was reducing, then Tories cutting officers to half isn't the cause of more crime. It is actually the polices of Mr Khan which caused it, as again, the stats show, crime rate was increasing.

No such thing as defunding the police here.

The argument of “Defund the Police” in America is that one can reduce police funding and/or numbers and still have keep crime rates low.

Do you agree with that.
refusing to address the point + incredibly disingenuous.
Address the points on the stats since you want to attribute the rising crime to the Tories

The tories have been in power for 11 years, and the country is in a worse state today than it was in 2010. You can't blame their failures on labour.

This is the only thing the tories excel at - culture wars. This bs doesn't really matter. It distracts from their crap policies.

Boris is the worst UK PM in a generation, stop twerking for him.

How? Explain how the country is in a worse state than 2010, and how Boris is the worse PM?

Also the last comment was intended to @Periplus as a jib, not as a Tory comment :ehh:

How the country is worse:
- Real wages are still below 2008 level (source: IFS)
- Crime rate has risen 27% from 2010 to 2020, due to big cuts in police budgets (source)
- Austerity was a huge failure. It only punished poorer people. National debt also went up, from 75% of GDP to 85% between 2010 and 2019.
- Poverty rates reached its highest ever levels in 2021 for working families (source)

With Boris, there's too many examples - just a few off the top of my head:
- Boasted about shaking hands with a covid patient, ends up in intensive care weeks later
- Cut free school meals, got bullied by a 22 yo footballer, and forced into a humiliating u-turn. Twice.
- Tried to force his MPs to support an obviously corrupt MP, until public pressure forced him to do another u-turn.

There's so many examples showing how incompetent Boris is.

Fr tho, tories are the masters of culture wars, that's how they win elections with ease.

Even Tory MPs think BJ is incompetent. His U-turn on the Owen Paterson lobbying scandal and his weird ramble about pepper pig at the CBI meeting isn’t a good look
