Damascus is getting a new metro line

Good for them but that is a 2 billion dollar investment they are getting from the Saudis. Foreign investment for infrastructure in Somalia is basically non-existent, Somalis have to do almost everything themselves.

That said, Syria is a much bigger shitshow than Somalia since they have Turkish and Israeli armed forced in the country, I can't see that country recovering faster than Somalia any time soon due to that.
we have Kenyans and Abyssinians.

Why would anyone pour billions in infrastructure when we have 20% of the whole country thats displaced, im telling you were not even at step 1, were barely even a country, i really dont know how to describe our situation sometimes
That describes Syria as well, their refugee crisis caused a displacement of millions which still happens. The difference however is that the Saudis want to have a role to play in Syria whereas no one really cares about Somalia's development aside from Turkey

Much easier to remove than Israel and Turkey

Weve had these crisis problems since independence, i could bet you even in a decade we wont have a single highway which is honestly pathetic considering even the poorest african countries have basic infrastructure like that
Somalia as a nation state should have never existed to begin with, it has never and will never prosper. That said congratulations to the Syrian people

It’s honestly embarrassing how there isn’t a single highway in the country.

Ive said it before but you will see the most beautiful neighborhoods but not a single paved road in sight

Some areas urgently need highways too, cars and trucks who go between djibouti and hargeisa go through very dangerous steep roads, at some turns you can see the remains of vehicles that fell down the ravines

Im pretty sure Somalia has the lowest paved road % in the world but whats embarassing is that even inside the big cities most roads are dirt, i cant think of another country who has infrastructure this bad

Just to fix Mogadishu, urban planning + paving roads it would cost at least 2B$, Thats two times the annual budget of the FGS, I dont think people realize how bad this is for a government which claims to be responsible for 18M people. Only oil could save this government but I feel like theyre too late even on that

It's expensive to build paved roads. Just to rehabilitate these roads and construct new ones is expected to cost close to $3 billion.

In theory if all these roads were upgraded to actual highways it would cost double that, and if they want to pave and plan a city its at least 2B$ two times more than their current total annual budget most of it goes to fighting shabaab and corruption

Good for Syria. They also need to invest in defense too make thier own weapons even. Somalia is in its state cause of failed leaders, go to politics and see what people are talking about ? It's all about clans and grudges no one wants to work together.

Im at a point where I dont care who rules the country, may it be a Gaboye, a Darod, oromo or cadaan

I just want to see progress man, were going into the 2030s without a single highway, less than 10% paved roads ffs, 1 in 4 somalis being IDPs and a 20 years old stalemate with the most corrupt infiltrated government on earth, on top of that were having the worst natural disasters in thousands of years, we cant keep up like this someone needs to garax themselves at villa somalia if HSM or Farmajo get re elected

I remember watching a video a while back about a local from Puntland who has been maintaining a strategic road by himself for 27 years, and the government still hasn’t intervened. It’s either oil or foreign loans, but I doubt any country will invest in Somalia given our security issues.

Honestly the entire continent is behind when it comes to a proper road network. Somalia is not unique in this. Hopefully it'll improve soon.

Puntland is the worst out of all man, I dont even know how to describe their government its like SL but way worse, Corruption and nepotism are literally normal there and the people dont care as long as theyre ruled by mj and deni tells them were going to take capture some tents in sanaag and shoot some aks in sool, their so called president also isn't doing anything to help the situation in the whole region

The only time you will hear about puntland is when theres a dispute between deni and fgs or when they build one road every decade, if Somalia officially balkanizes theyre probably in the podium of the most cooked regions

Nah were unique in this, this isnt senegal where you got a big coastal capital city and some villages inland, most big cities here are inland, everything is happening inland and you got a government which only controls around the coast

They do exist but most are poorly maintained. Its the responsibility of the government to subsidize a major road overhaul

Its worse in other countries because they get billions in development aid and have more resources than Somalia yet they still fall behind. Corruption is endemic to most African governments.

Corruption and nepotism are issues every state faces, tbh. I wouldn’t say it’s unique to one state, which is why we’re in this mess. Not only is the FGS corrupt, but so is every federal state.
