NEWS Dahabshiil announces SOMTEL public share scheme

Members of the Somaliland public will for the first time be able to own shares in Dahabshiil Group's SOMTEL business.

There was a concurrent event running in Mogadishu where the above announcement was broadcasted live.

Out of the five Somali regions, Somaliland is blessed with a concentration of the largest Somali businesses:

We may now see similar announcements from other massive Somalilander businesses like OMINCO Group, Deero Group, GSK Group, MSG Group and others.

It's because other Somalis all contribute to dahabshill, most of dahabshil usage is from south and PL, because other somalis aren't qabilist whereas you may only use it because its owned by your tribe.

Qabil and business don't mix.

Just the other day Amal opened a bank in hargeisa and there was alot of talk about why it was allowed, this is so backward.

Does Somtel even have a userbase
Telesom dominates SL
Golis dominates PL
Hormuud dominates Galmudug, JL, SWS and Xamar

I wanna see the likes of Golis, Telesom and Hormuud open up shares I'm not as interested in the failed Somtel

Puntland hardly has any population, you can look at historical data.. almost no one lives in that desert.

Look at the list above of the 8 most influential transnational businesses in Somali territories, of the 8, 6 are Somalilander-owned.

Puntland region only has a single company on the list.

Yet my smallest village is bigger than gabiley.

Do you know how many settlements and villages there are between each major town in PL. Just between qardho and bosaso has around 30 villages and towns, whereas if you drive between Burco and hargeisa you only see a few.

That population census you keep harping on about is from a time where many puntlanders lived in the south.

Forget about villages. Your largest town Bosaso is smaller than Borama.

The claim that population of Puntland region being so abysmally small due to them migrating to the south has been debunked, you probably did not know this but census data included clans, and there was no significant population originating from that desert in the south.

Try and come up with a better excuse.

Does this mean their accounts and cash flows will be public information?

Dahabshiil is a monopoly that had an unfair advantage through bribing Somaliland officials. Especially in the Silanyo era.

Cousins of the owner of Dahabshil were ministers in Silaanyos government exposing the corrupt bias nature of the system.

It was also alleged they bankrolled the assisination of Saado Ali warsame after she released a critical song of the company.

Most Somali companies have monopolised their sector and are extremely harsh to anybody who opposes them politically or journalistically.
