Why is it 'surprising'??
Women are not bastards, we have a lineage, just like men. We are not objects that belong to a man that marries us. We just don't pass on the names, but other than that, there is no difference. We are expected to support our families, and rightfully so. In Somali culture, we do pass on our names sometimes, with all the "Bah" and "Habar" names. Not to mention the clan names inspired by abtiyaal. During warfare, people even hide among their abtiyaal and even call on them for support; the famous 'Habar Wacasho' (
@DR OSMAN ).
"naag qabiil malaha', is a saying by misogynist men, who in reality, would die from starvation and lack of community, if not for the women in their clan. They say this, because they want to marry all kinds of Somali women, regardless of clan beef. Niyada beey ku dhisaan, but it's rooted in falsehood.
Also, I'm pretty sure that women spy on their husband's clan meetings, to pass on intel. There are also cases where women take revenge on their in-laws, if their families are slain. There is an MJ lady, married to one of those SNM leaders, one time, she took an AK47, and broke out some MJ men that were arrested.
I find it quite amusing and naive, that there are men, who think their wife, will choose them over their own family, if there is a clan war. You think she will choose you, over her father, brothers? Unless she hates her family, or is a lobotomised caasiyad/ doqon, she will get revenge at some point, or secretly despise you. At best, she will only spy on you, or take money to send to her family, at worst, way kuu dhamaatay. But you won't even see it coming. Best bet is to stay out of clan fkd/war efforts if your wife is from a historic 'enemy' clan.
