Was an interesting topic until @El padrone spaghetti'd all over it.

@offensive bias How is the security compared to Airbnb ... I'm assuming hosts and guests are verified using passports and utility bills?

Who are the type of people who use it?

I personally won't even share an Airbnb apartment with a host forget risking my neck on some couch.

Any stories of hosts trying to roofie your ass while you were on mushrooms?

Mushrooms ? What kind of holiday are you wanting

Why isn't your wife with you ? You sound like an awesome dude I would like a man which travels a lot ;)
My wife was a housewife for the first few years of our marriage , i got tired of my career and wanted a change so we left,
settled in australia where i had nearly 3 years of semi retirement , worked part time, did some post grad studies while she made a start with her career.
semi retirement was great , i was a house husband most of the time, looked after my kid and the house and worked from home mostly and went to university. Did some gardening , smoked allot of pot while my kid was in school lol.
after 2 years i was invigorated and hatched my 3rd attempt at getting rich, which meant moving to dubai.
so here i am and its 7 months now...

Most of the people who use it are idealistic hipster travellers , usually young, but ive been hosted by a couple in their 50s.
It verified and you can verify on your own by looking at the profile, usually you should only go with people that have allot references from different people. I never accepted someone with nothing on their profile... its about trust and reputation,

and nobody roofies me, i am usually paranoid, and the shrooms thing was just one time..
never again...
i cant believe i ended up in another city , just because i watched a movie about it while high..

Western? thats just titles and names, people are complex .
I can be more western than westerners, more arab than arabs, but i identify as somali.

its 2017 there are allot of people like me, most of my friends are just as diverse.
for example one of my closest friends is a pakistani canadian who speaks german , but if you meet him on a friday wearing his salwar khamis
he looks like taliban. lol

My parents are strict so won't allow me to go anywhere but Muslim countries on my own, I earn a steady wage now so my wish is to just do a backpack trip where I please, but that requires a lot of money which sadly I can't be asked to save lol, yeah it's different for women tbh couch surfing is a no no with my parents or any sane Somali parent they would worry to death about me being raped etc

well usualy woman prefer to stay with other women, safer that way.
but you dont have to stay with someone, if you are in a new city you can go to the regular meetups, its usually at a bar/cafe/resteraunt.
drop in meet the locals and other travelers .

I don't think I'll be allowed my mum would call me every second to check if I was ok lol, my father will say no it's not good for a girl to travel on her own, our lives are different pal what work for you doesn't work for others

What will the community think if a girl travels on her own is what my father would say, it's not a good reputation if a girl is seen traveling on her own with no purpose,

You wont get the sense of adventure from airbnb or hotels..
for example my best experience was Tokyo in 2008.
I was hosted by a 40 year old single mum and her 20 year old daughter lol.
The mum was acting young and loved clubbing and was into Drum n bass, took to me clubbing in the weekend too.

She was kind enough to give me a tour and then took me to a party with other Couchsurfers and travelers , it was the opening of a restaurant .
Met a couple of US navy sailors who just finished their tour and were celebrating leaving the navy and we hit it off. Between the 3 of us only one person knew any japanese and not much of that, we were using a digital handheld translator/dictionary and hitting on chicks.
They found it hilarious but we made it work with our badly constructed and grammatically inaccurate attempt at Japanese.
Met allot of well educated people surprisingly fluent in many langauges, some of the friends i made i am still close with and i have hosted them in Dubai later.

One of the Navy boys was of philipino ancestry and they both were heading to philipines after and after picking up a 4rth member of our group,
this one was black french guy from paris we made the impromptu decision to go to philipines and had another mini adventure in the philipines.

Stop. Rewind. What happened between you, the single mum and her 20 year old daughter

my sister travels allot, but usually with her gang of girl friends , my parents would never let her travel alone, unless its for work,
