I am talking about the last almost 40 years, not the last 3 years. Somalis in other countries are alot more insular and are not as involved or engaged in their communities. People will be alot more forgiving and understanding of your shortcomings (growing pains as a new immigrant group) if you bothered to attempt to have a meaningful presence in sectors like civil society for example or don't show open hostility to them and way of life (for example: "Voting is haram. Dont vote"). This is relationship building 101.

My kids and hopefully grandkids and future generations will be living here. They're not going to move to Somalia like 99% of you also wont. I don't want them to become a loser crying about being victims like you unaware it's because of them refusing the culture and norms of where they live. i do think somali's should engage more with the culture they're around but to be real that's never going to be enough for the blood and soil nationalists. for example I want to learn a to play the guitar but do you think that would endear me to someone who thinks that the west should be white and Christian. somalis shouldn't do things that they don't want to bend over backwards, if I'm westernized (which to be fair I am) it is because I like those things and not because I want to make westerners feel more comfortable. the way somalis should integrate is to allow other somali's to do what they want not to fundamentally change themselves.
