First it was Somalia he went after because of Ilhan Omar’s remarks, and now it’s over the viral video of that racist woman being exposed , the one a Somali man in Minnesota filmed. He used that incident to go on his channel and say “White guilt is over.” Basically, they use Somalis as pawns in their left vs. right political grudge matches. We're a demographic that ends up symbolizing everything the racist right hates , Muslim, Black, immigrant, socially cohesive, and unapologetically visible.

I’m showing you this one example , Lewiston, Maine , to make it clear that nothing these people say is ever grounded in reality or fact.

Of course, I could go on about how Minnesota Somalis are essentially a success story, with high educational enrollment, high employment rates, and some of the highest self-employment rates among immigrant groups. That alone should shut down the “burden” narrative.

But Lewiston isn’t a one-off. The same story has repeated across many towns and cities. This 2007 report showed the number of Somali-owned businesses rising sharply in places people once considered “dead zones.” Whether it’s food service, logistics, retail, or tech, Somali immigrants often bring economic life back into stagnating communities. The ownership of businesses rose from 500 in 2007 to 1500 by 2010, so its probably in the multiple thousands now.

Now let’s get into why Minnesota Somalis in particular are such a point of obsession for these right-wing media types. It’s not because they’re doing anything wrong , it’s because they’re politically visible, organized, and effective. Ilhan Omar is just the tip of the iceberg. The Somali community there votes, runs businesses, engages in activism, and speaks out. That terrifies the right because it’s proof that a Black, Muslim, immigrant group can thrive and influence policy without begging for validation.

It also exposes how non-white political participation is effectively discouraged or blocked in most other states. Minneapolis is an outlier , it shows what’s possible when a community builds its own power base.

The median income of Somalis in America is much higher than the stats they report on. You can see this reality reflected on the food security rate which is high compared to Hispanic and Black American communities and the amount of remittances Somalis send back home.

According to a 2013 Oxfam report, Somalis in the U.S. sent an average of $3,800 per person annually back home. Multiply that by even a modest 150,000 Somali-Americans , that’s $570 million a year flowing out in remittances. That kind of output cannot be done on a $40K median household income. You’d need at least $60K or more, especially while maintaining living costs in the U.S.

80% of Somalis in Minnesota are not on welfare, compared 50% of Black Americans. It doesn't make sense when you look at the reporting. How do they manage it? Simple: informal work, cash businesses, and self-employment. Most Somali labor doesn’t even register on federal data because it doesn’t come through traditional W2 employment.

Let’s not forget the deeper historical context either. Somalis were part of American infrastructure a century ago , the earliest wave of Somali immigrants came through New York in the early 1900s. They helped build parts of the subway system, working in rail and transport sectors. Later waves in the 70s and 80s , students, military trainees, and diplomats , successfully transitioned into professional careers, even after the Somali state collapsed in the 90s.

So no , we don’t need to “prove” our worth to anyone. But when people try to erase it or distort the narrative, we can and should respond with facts, receipts, and history.

Because the reality is: Somalis have improved, elevated, and contributed to every single place they’ve settled in.

Skimmed through some of your previous posts and you seem to be into that kind of lifestyle .. maybe that’s why it appears like we’re overrepresented in those crimes to you. Link stats showing we sell drugs/kill at disproportionate rates.
