Consequences of identifying as ‘black’

Somali’s have had a high Covid-19 death rate and I was interested in seeing the UK governments report as to why that may be.

As you can see the ‘black’ Somali’s have been placed in the Central-West Africa region which has the highest increase from the baseline level in 2014. I suspect the Somali deaths would be behind this but we’ll probably never understand why as they’ll test Somali’s alongside West Africans who are genetically different and come to inconclusive results.

Kenyans are native East African Cushites. Somalis are Bantus from West Africa.

Where I live Somali data isn't aggregated with non-Somalis which means the interpretations made about Somalis are less misleading. The sad thing is the UK has a larger population but are a little less demanding. *Sigh* Scratch that, didn't they have forms with Somali as a category separate from other groups. I'm astounded.
