Comfort or Liberty?

Basically, the choice is between a strong, wealthy, well-developed Somalia that is also sadly ruled by a tyrannical regime a la the Chinese Communist Party and a Somalia that is far less tyrannical, where liberties like freedom of speech, basically everyone bearing arms, free and open business and the like are intact but the country is underdeveloped, politically chaotic, poor and being looted by outside powers (not unlike now). Which do you choose?

This is a tricky one because the oppressive regime will likely be overthrown and plunge the country into another Civil War. If the second is implemented will it be indefinite or is their hope for the future ?

I want my liberty, i will never tolerate living in a tyrannical government where you are basically slaves to the state.

with the latter at least you could try to work to make the country a better place, with the former it'll be nearly impossible to and your best bet is to flee

those who would pick the tyrannical option do not understand the severity it does to a person's mind, take north korea for example, they are completely brainwashed and the people who have managed to flee have talked about the horrors the regeime has done

It would be too ridiculous a hypothetical if I said there is a guarantee there would be no eventual civil war and tragic collapse with the tyrannical regime or that there'd be zero hope for the future with the other scenario so lets just assume that the tyrannical regime at least maintains a century of prosperity. 100 years of global high standing, high standard of living, a strong military, educated masses and so on but the political state of affairs would basically be identical to China today. And in the opposite scenario the chaos and looting would remain for a century until just past 2100. What do you choose, abaayo?

I dont like limitations so I choose Liberty. If we start off as poor freeman we can work our way to the top, but if their was a tyrannical rule over us our wealth can be taken from us anytime, and we will most likely face some kind of abuse.

What's not to say the tyrannical government could also be a potential puppet of some sort. What really is peace and prosperity when you are under a tyrannical government. Most likely being monitered everywhere you go, brutal harsh punishments sometimes unjustified with no accountability? Even if you say yes it's bound to collapse entirely and all of its "fortunes" will be a goner

For the one with more liberties it is much easier for the people to change the situations you're in, in the other one they'll most likely bar the common folk and will silence any opposition

Corruption, Armed civilians, weak government, weak economy etc. What's good about the second option?!.

Liberty?!! The appeal of the word 'liberty' might stray young people from the righteous path. There are set of sacred rules within every society and it should be uphelded and respected. I don't consider 'liberty' to be an apostate, I don't consider it to be females dressing immodestly, I don't consider it to be promoting LGBTQ degeneracy, I don't consider it to be promoting devilish music full of drugs and sexually explicit scenes.

Rules should be there to tame our evil sides.

One thing I've noticed is that most, not all but most, developed countries did not industrialize and develop for the most part as "democracies". Japan, South-Korea, even many European countries like the UK... They experienced the bedrock of their development pretty much under states of tyranny of some form or another. So some like the Chinese like to argue that the only way forward for places like Africa and many parts of Asia is something akin to the China model. That it creates the stability needed for initial development and I guess that people can worry about liberty and all that later. What do you guys think of this?

Not easy choosing between 2 extremes, what’s comfort without freedom and freedom without comfort? but I do think unstable countries need a strong man to bring things into order. Democracy in such a situation wouldn’t make sense especially when there’s so many tribes trying to get their people into a position of power. So I’d rather a strong man/dictator that’s feared and respected who will bring law and order and alleviate suffering, get rid of poverty, ect
