President of Somalia or President of your FMS

Would you rather be president of the whole of our country Somalia or would you prefer to be president of your federal member state if hypothetically you was given a choice of both options and both jobs were guaranteed to you.

Me personally I would like to be president of Somalia as a whole because as a person born in a democratic, multicultural country in the West I honestly don't have any hate or negativity towards any region or clan in Somalia and I'd like all of Somalia to be peaceful and prospering but maybe I'm just naive

A second reason is that if someone else from another FMS led the country they might be hostile to your own state so you would benefit your state if you led the whole of Somalia hence why for example Said Deni should be Somalia's president so as to benefit Puntland

If I was power-hungry, I would be president of an FGS region.

If I felt like sacrificial lamb or ego-driven, I would be president of the FGS.

You would either have to be a horrible person or a living saint to be president of Somalia.

Their salaries shouldn't be higher than teachers and they should get no 'pomp and ceremony'. Once all the allure and financial gain is removed from politics, narcissists will seek their fix elsewhere. I also think diaspora Somalis shouldn't be hired unless they have put in a good amount of years of service in their home state.

They will still find a way.

I don’t think diaspora Somalis should even have political seats in government. It boggles my mind that locals don’t think wtf when seeing these ppl. If I was a local, I would consider them foreigners with Somali roots, nothing more.

Right? Diaspora Somalis should do work that brings in more work; businesses or they should do work that helps people such as medical work, teaching etc.

For example, President Deni was born in Mogadishu, moved to Puntland like many Puntites after the civil war, became a teacher, then a businessman and then he entered politics. He is a daljoog who has earned his stripes.

I'll take federal state, ruling outside of my jiffo is too much of a headache, I'd probably do something too ambitious that would bring a rapid end to my rule and my life.

If I was president of PL, I would implement a 200% tax on cigarettes and khat. The pack of β€œRoyals” cigarettes in PL is $1 USD, meaning the tax will push it to $3.

I would then use that tax money to build a public healthcare system and renovate hospitals.

Make the smokers and druggies pay for our health and well-being.

A local man through and through. Good for him.

I don’t agree with living outside the country 30 years plus and coming back to having political position. We have a president now who was even a member of a political party in another country. At least he threw away the passport I guess.

Now soon, we’ll have diaspora kids who weren’t even born there talking about being president. I don’t know how locals sit back and watch this. :mjlol:

Like India, we need Oversea Citizenship of Somalia.

Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) is a form of permanent residency available to people of Indian origin and their spouses which allows them to live and work in India indefinitely. Despite the name, OCI status is not citizenship and does not grant the right to vote in Indian elections or hold public office.

If India didn't have that, that would have made the diaspora so influential.

@Periplus, uni is uni, if it ain't African or Arab, it is held with esteem, especially by those countries with low esteemed unis, LaTrobe may be second rate, but to the Arab or Somali man, it is like a great University.

yeah 100%. When I go xamar, I see youngsters more educated with degrees in politics and they are unemployed. On the other hand, the amount of cab drivers and internet cafe dwellers I know who went to Somalia and became politicians is reckless. Diaspora Somalia should help create jobs and bring skills from the west, no xaasidly take jobs from the diaspora they aren’t even qualified for. Also with deni I agree. He has earned his stripes as a leader and wadani. I’d actually be happy for him to lead Somalia

@Calaf does India prohibit dual citizenship? It's impossible for Somalia to ban dual citizenship in the short or medium term
Banned, that is where a Oversea card/citizenship comes into play. You can choose to have your foreign citizenship but instead have a Overseas card, but you don't have the same right as a citizen, or the other option is,, leave that citizenship for your native one, and be treated like a local.

It can be done once we get a grip and gave a proper visa policy.
