You have dependents on the form? Can't be single in America, make good money and get back that much without deducting dependents and expenses allowed for deduction like Education Expenses you paid for etc. Most singles with good paying jobs end up sending money to Uncle Sam after they file taxes.

Or he has lower income and gets credit for being poor. At least in America, that is the case. If you are student and make less than 10K, you get some money back.

Otherwise, single status with higher income can get you to pay money to the federal treasury/IRS after filing taxes.

The scams are emails which will send you a fake link so they can phish your banking details. Not letters from the HMRC with your P60 included.

They miscalculated because of the bonuses I've received throughout the year, I kind of saw it coming tbh.

One time I got 20 thousand crones back, because I'm a woman who live below her means.:trumpsmirk:

Guess what I did with the money? Ordered cruisship with the Lisa, who left me a month later. :liberaltears:

At least I got something for the throat :hillarybiz:

Make sure to keep the money untouched until this clears up and they don't come after you. Paying back with interest will be a lot harder if you end up using all the money. It is worth calling them back to clear up the confusion.

I am not planning on spending it anyway.

Smart move. Deposit and wait. It is best to call them to clear up confusion. It is pain waiting for you later in case it turns out you weren't meant to have it. Interest is a burden. Would be nice if they only asked for their money back, but the system is designed to punish. Don't help them grow fat with ill gotten gains from you.

If I get £1,000 more a year I'll be in the higher tax bracket which is 40%. I'm confused, does that mean that I'll have 20% less to live on? I just got this promotion so I won't have a pay rise in a few years but I just wanted to know.

Doesn't the Tax agency post the income bracket for taxation and what you will pay as a base tax without deductions and claims you make? Hit their website to find the answer Shamso.

I am expecting they have a calculator to input your income to see what percent of your income you had to depart with.

Nah, you'll only pay 40% tax on whatever you make over £45k. Anything below is still 20%

This is little higher than what we pay in the USA. Average American pays 31.85% of their income. Rich people have loop-holes and pay less so Average American refers to ordinary people who work at least 40 hours a week.
