Somalia (including somaliland) was never colonised. It had been a protectorate for just a few years. A protectorate means you can rule yourself and keep your culture but you have to pay taxes to a foreign country. This agreement worked for both. When xalimos disagree and claim we were colonised and enslaved, ask them, how come every single african country speaks a european language except us.

This is true for the north (British Somaliland) and was for the south (Italian Somaliland) at first and for much of it's colonial history but wasn't the south made into pretty much a real colony for a time? With direct Italian administration over Banaadir at least with attempts at colonization? But yes, Somali territories were mostly protectorates like the Gulf Emirates. Treaties were signed with local Suldaans and qabiil Chiefs and they were left to their usual affairs with powers like the Brits managing their foreign and trade relations with taxation.

Let’s first agree on the fact that the only real asset in somali territories was banaadir. Europeans had nothing to gain from modern day puntland somaliland except more debt. Once you agree we can discuss why there’s more italian influence on banaadir.

I'd argue the whole south was pretty attractive land what with those rivers if you managed to deal with some of the tsetse fly issues. A lot of untapped hectares, saxiib. The north wasn't that bad at least around the interior of the northwest but yes; mostly arid land that was only useful to hold for strategic reasons (on the way to the Bab and all that).

because of the kacaan. before 1972 the government languages were italian english arabic and spoken somali.
How come vast majority of Somalis born before 1972 don’t speak italian, in particular the sand dwellers.

During an italian protectorate the government/civil servants are expected to speak Italian. The upper classes in xamar, like my parents also speak italian.

I can tell you that British Somaliland was an protectorate for the purpose of feeding the British troops stationed in Aden, Yemen.
It wasn't all sunshine though. For more on this I would like to direct you to the reer Somaliland member's on this forum.

Italian Somaliland was initially colonized with the intend of eventually carving a piece out for ethnic italians but countless under documented revolts undermined their goal. Furthermore they used colonial troops to conquer the sultanates with the majerteen sultanate being the last to fall around 1928.
They introduced airplanes to african airspace to bomb us the first and second time it occurred both targets were somali territories.
Italian Somaliland last decade of colonial influence had the title trusteeship which enabled the southern territory to produce capable politicians.

Somalis also were the first if not only to use miniguns canons and firearms against colonizers. Which resulted in countless treaties with qabiils.

To make a long story short somalis created on of the most epic anti colonial movements which inspired a lot of ssa nations. Hell we even helped to kick their colonizers out to.
