Collectivism or Individuliasm

How can one be for collectivism if they have two different backgrounds, especially when they both have different customs etc?

Individualism now is encouraged by the west, which personally I think is good. collectivists will argue that certain people can make wrong choices but if these people chose those wrong choices they will have to handle the consequences because humans are not perfect and can make mistakes and blaming individualism is a poor argument. Enforced collectivism shuts down creativity and tolerance towards different cultures and encourages hate. Individualism in the past certainly meant death in terms of the inability to survive alone, and I don’t think that is the case now.

Occidentals (westerners) consider themselves to be inherently individualist and thus capitalist as well as democratic. While Orientals (the rest of the world) are collectivists hence collectivist ideologies like Islamic universality across race, creed. Also the rise of communism which took place largely amongst the orientals of the world. Oriental collectivist societies are more likely to have shame-based cultures, and are more inclined towards despotism.

As Somalis because of nomadic pastoralism we're kind of individualist but at the same time our Islamic faith as well as Somalinimo forms a collectivism.
