Tribal clashes in Kassala between Nuba and Beni Amer tribesmen the past three days left eight dead and more than 80 injured.

Kassala governor Maj Gen Mahmoud Babikir announced in a statement yesterday that 59 people from both sides have been arrested, mainly in the Kadugli and El Soug El Shaabi districts in the town. Complaints have been filed against them.

The violence abated yesterday. In the districts El Nour and El Murabaat minor clashes between tribesmen caused the Sudanese army to separate the two sides by firing in the air. The situation in the Makram and Kadugli districts was tense, but no violence occurred.

During the clashes a large number of houses and shops were torched and property stolen. Hundreds of families fled their homes.

Beni Amer are dogs who fought for the Italians against the Mahdist. They are hated by all the tribes in the region for a reason. The OP worded it as Beja vs Nilotic for people to sympathize with Beni Amer when they are actually Tigre speaking oppressors. Nuba are the good guys here.

Yes but Beni Amer are known to have been favored in Eastern Sudan by Bashir and they oppressed the other tribes in the region. Beni Amer are not really Sudanese, they are actually an Eritrean tribe and they fought with the Italians against the Mahdist. As Muslims we should support the oppressed people and be against the oppressors
