China's response to the Somaliland-Taiwan "Coast Guard Cooperation Deal"

They probably noticed the US and EU slowly backing away from Somalia and want to fill in the gap

This is unrelated but why doesn't SL clap for Russia instead? Russians have a history or supporting seperatists states and I'm sure Putin would love to have a base near the Red Sea.
This isnt the USSR anymore Russia is weak and behind the rest of the developed world, especially their crumbling army, no one is clapping for them

This. The US is pulling back because Turkey which is a key NATO state is already fulfilling that role. Uncle Sam might step in if China gets close enough to influence politics.
Turkey is doing way more for somalia than the US would have ever done, do you see the US giving Apaches and Reaper drones to Somalia ? Cant even name all the things Turkey did and is doing, the amount of armored vehicles they provided is already very significant

Its different for Turkey because Erdogan sees Somalia's potential as a future ally and client, so its gonna be potentially very profitable for Turkey to invest in Somalia, same cannot be said about the US

I agree, Turkey is doing a lot more for us than the US could ever do but I meant the US sees Turkey as fulfilling the role of keeping Chinese influence in Somalia at a minimum. The US doesnt also have to install a permanent base because Turkey already has as massive one here so the US could monitor the situation from a distance unless China gets more involved in Somalia.

Even without a US base the FGS government runs thanks to EU and US money so them getting closer to China is not happened this decade
