In this poorly written thread, I wanted to share with how much China screw up other countries fish stocks:
China has a fleet of fishing ships that operate in 93 countries around the world in 4 continents. It is considered the most over(looter) fisher in the world that could drive a large economical and environmental disaster in the world. China has around 16,000 fishing ships, with great equipment that make them work for 24h, and fish hundreds of tonnes each day. Chinese fleet are escorted by military, fuel, storage and medical ships that let them stay in the water for months. To give a perspective of how gigantic that fleet is, the combined fleets of Japan, South Korea, Spain and Taiwan is considered to be 2,600 ship.
China is single handily accounted for the 80% of all fishing activities in the off shores of Argentina, Ecuador and other Latin American state.
These ships operate almost around the clock, moving from country to country with the seasons. China has turned to these faraway waters after depleting fish stocks closer to its own shores.
North Korea incident ( widows villages):
In North Korea, the State gave licenses to Chinese vessels to fish in its waters, that resulted in North Korea's waters getting emptied in short period of time, which resulted in locals travelling long distances to catch more fish, but that resulted, thanks to the sanctions, in the sailors getting stranded in the middle of seas due to engine failure or running out of fuel, thus the death of the sailors and their ships full of dead bodies washing up in Japan. There are whole villages in North Korea where they are called Widows villages for this reason.
Senegal, (fish stock near extinction):
Fishing and fish stock plays a huge role in the Senegalese food security, where 75% of the people relies on fish stock for get their protein. But sadly, thanks to illegal fishing vessels, that source of protein is 90% fully fished or facing collapse. Imagine nearly 13 million of the population main protein source collapsing or being entirely fished out? To give a perspective on the scale in which China over fish in west africa, an average Chinese vessel can fish 700 tonnes of fish stock, while the average Senegalese ship will need 6 months to fish that amount.
Chinese rivers and seas:
China is the worst over fisher, locally and abroad. For example, China's river Yangtze, one of the largest rivers in the worlds (3#) that once had huge fish stock, is now just a desert. The ministry of agriculture stated that there are no more Fishes in the East China sea.
There are more incidents and massive collapses in different parts of the world.
