These averages are so interesting. Apparently just based on 15-20 people who didn't look younger than 20 or older than 50 to the photographer, though. From what I read anyway. Someone should pay someone or a team to use like 100-1000 people between 25-40 for as many ethnic groups as possible. Would be so interesting.

I've seen these composites a long time ago. It's very middle of the road. But I would say it's about accurate. Somalis tend to have slightly more elongated features than Ethiopians and narrower features despite less admixture. I think this has more to do with Somalis practicing selective breeding in the past. Marriage used to be a whole tribal affair, very intentional and quite costly (for mainstream Somalis). Obviously, things have changed especially with urbanization and abandoning some previously observed cultural practices. Then again Somalis are more featurist than their Habeshi and even other Cushitic-speaking counterparts. Somalis are also comparatively less assimilationist. These are just a few of my theories.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think they’re ugly but they do have a natural square-ish jaw, while Somalis have the narrower jaw they desire.
