Many Cheetahs are sold to wealthy Arabs and are seen as a status symbol over there. Most of the Cheetahs that end up in Arabia come from North-West Somalia.

They can be tamed. They are not that dangerous. A hotel I stayed at in Somalia had a pet cheetah and it more or less acted like a house cat just bigger.

I believe they're the only big Cat (when they're tamed) that doesn't pounce on you when you turn your back towards it.

Damn, just watched the entire CNN video and it showed a pet cheetah at a Somaliland hotel (I saw them in Gaalkacyo). I guess it's actually fairly common despite it being illegal according to video.
