Somali didn't pop out of nowhere, insulting AA and other Africans.
I have been around on Twitter for a while and it was those other madows that would unprovoked insult Somalis. I'm talking about around 2012, long before the advent of Madow etc. Especially around the time that Captain Phillips came out.
There was even an incident where a Canadian madow girl complained about Somalis being racist only to be exposed for hate tweeting about Somalis since 2012, wishing genocide on us. Serious case of projection.
While I disagree with the antics of these so called trolls, one can't ignore the fact that due to the events in Somalia including piracy and the fact that we look different/ are Muslims, some madows have singled Somalis out with malicious intent. So its unfair to compare us to Ethiopians or Kenyans.
Having seen those same madows mock our features and starving children, I have zero sympathy for any fire those trolls return.
Hey sis, some locals dissing us is different than constantly using racial slurs in social media. By and large, AAs have no issues with us and would be the first to defend us if our civil rights are violated in the US.
Besides, we're really a small group of people, and AAs are over 42 million people. So my concern was for our own good. In the American context, we need the support of the AAs if we need to thrive in the US. So the sooner we stay clear from generating animosity from a group of people who would've been our allies, the better it is for us.
Let me remind you, when some congressmen and women were attacking Ilhan Omar, it was the Congressional Black Caucus who came to her rescue. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and then Senator Kamala Harris were the people who defended her. So when push comes to shove, AA intellectuals will be there for us as they defend all minorities.
I would remind you to look at the Orientals (Indhoyar people). Even though they face attacks from some AAs, they hardly resort to racial abuse and slurs. They manage to keep their feelings to themselves. We need to keep a page on how others are very political about their image and really learn how to be diplomatic about our feelings.
I tell this to Somalis in real life, in social media, and in Somali forum(s). I do it because I've paid attention on how others manage their image in the West.
