Sight, my sailor dress still hasn’t came in. So, I used the old one I posted here awhile ago and added on to make it new.
The colors I used are red, white and blue for both the USA and the Somali Youth League. The sailor dress, Catholic veil and Berber cross on my belly chain is a reference to the occupation they had, sailors and missionaries.
I also added skulls to my bracelets and shawl is a node to both the Barbary and Somali pirates.
And finally, the Victorian ruffles and shoes are from the British Somaliland.
The length of the dress is a reference to Americanization and a symbol of rebellion, but not too short to show the conservative values of Somali/Tuareg people.
