Check my Independent week outfit. Based off Mezquita-Catedral, the Great Mosque of Córdoba w/ Barbary pirate influence

This the concept of my attire is of the Mezquita-Catedral, the Great Mosque of Córdoba. The architectural style is Moorish & Renaissance w/ Gothic & Baroque elements. Mezquita-Catedral, the Great Mosque of Córdoba is one of the oldest structures still standing from the time Muslims ruled Al-Andalus (Muslim Iberia including most of Spain, Portugal, and a small section of Southern France) in the late 8th century.

It’s also kinda a pun.
A play on the architectural styles of the Mosque Cardinal.
Moorish: The Moorish were ethnically North African Berbers. My Somali family is from Somaliland, which has the city Berbera. Berber is the English name for the original people of North Africa, Amazigh. My paternal grandmother’s folks are Arabized Tuareg. Also, ties into my heritage to the USA through the Barbary Wars.
The western clothing style I incorporate into my traditional African attire is Gothic Lolita, which is based on Victorian, Rococo, & Renaissance aesthetics. The one of the main Germanic tribes that integrated into the Maghreb was called the Goths.
It also embodies the parallels of the history of Mezquita-Catedral, the Great Mosque of Córdoba to my family’s transition from to Sunni Muslim to Roman Catholic & how they fused their past beliefs with the new one .

Also, the Barbary pirate reference is a hidden joke reference to them believing that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every mussulman who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise and my dad referred to the main occupation of my grandma’s family was “missionary” work and his father was into “trading” So that’s why I went with the missionary/nun theme. Lol
