Ride The Lightning
Since that event, the right have been exposed like i've never seen before. since 'GamerGate', right wing narratives have held a monopoly on online political discourse. they paint themselves as stern, strong, "rational", strong on the principle of "free speech etc but since that event it really looks like that image has crumbled.
they've recorded themselves crying like babies, the new and politically appointed FBI leadership looked as incompetent as ever. flags at half mast and bombastic state funerals for what is essentially a social media influencer. and to top it off, they've gone on a wave of mass cancellations, getting people fired from their jobs for not mourning that guy enough.
key part is the shooter himself, tyler robinson.
it doesnt matter what his own politics were, he's a young, average looking white guy who just played video games, no overt politics on his social media or crazy hair colors. the narrative you can build around this is endless but in the end he's a young white man just like any other. bro had helldivers and HOI4 memes on the bullet casings.
the millions of white kids who live in the flyover states, with declining economic opportunities can see themselves in him. this is the base demographic of nick fuentes for example. The modern right just won't work without these guys.
personally, i think that at some point in his life he was into far-right politics, and his online activity guarantees exposure to right wing ideology. All political views adopted after that, even "left" ones will end up being adopted in more "right" frames.
i remember when trump won last year, all the liberal media did was whine about joe rogan, theo von, andrew schulz and co. "we've LOST young men even though we did nothing to court them, how do we get them back?" and it's not just white guys, pretty much every male youth fell for the trump campagin.
i believe this is the biggest blow to the right in the past decade, especially to Gen Z. I've never seen the left actually win with young people since the early 2010s, every message they put out just sounds exactly like a nagging school teacher.
i'm seeing anti-trump giftok memes getting nearly a million likes in reaction to the incident, the right has never looked dumber and less appealing than ever, we could be in a major shift right now.
