Changing the perception of somalis

When I was growing up the americans around me just viewed somalis as a typical poor African country nothing made us stand out but then something wonderful happened we started pirating men built like toothpicks scourged the sea and put fear into the hearts of those who wished to sail our seas. We were cool pirates akin to blackbeard but since then pirates have been stopped and Al-shabab has taken over as what Somalia is known for.

To change that with the people I know I have started to tell non-somali friends that we have trials by combat and that those accused of crimes can fight for their innocence (this was in the height of game of thrones) and the whites absolutely loved it it was very "ethnic" to them. Though some think about it too much and view it as a barbaric practice and claim the strong could just do whatever but I tell them it is just like basketball ball dont lie.

What else should we tell these gullible people?
