This is true. But clusters group together. Somalia is in an intermediary geographic location. So two clustered locations with genetics that aren't similar moving in and out of the region was the cause of the genetic drift.
There may be as much genetic diversity in West Africa alone, but the similarities are enough to cluster them in a group that's not different enough to make strong distinctions.

Race is pretty pseudoscience and arbitrary, yes. It really is up to whoever is talking what constitutes a "race" because there is no definite criteria for what constitutes one in actual rigorous science unlike with the "species" label. Speciation can at least be argued to be about breeding. You can consider two groups of animals of the same species if they are capable of interbreeding and producing healthy, fertile offspring once they do. All human ethnic groups, barring health issues, can easily do this with one another so we are undoubtedly the same species.
"Race" has no such clear cut criteria. I can choose to consider our ancient MENA elements a "race" if I want or the more ancient elements that make up them like Ancestral North African, Ancient North Eurasian, Western Hunter-Gatherer and Anatolian Hunter-Gatherer. Or do the same for our proto-Nilotic elements or whatever more ancient stuff will someday turn out to make up proto-Nilotic. Or just decide that we and groups of a similar mixture as us that has been stabilized for millennia now like the Xabash and Sudanis are a "race".
It's all really arbitrary, my man and has its roots in pseudoscience from the 18th to early 20th centuries around this idea that there were 4 discrete and "pure" racial groups based on craniofacial types which we now know is bullshit as most modern populations are the result of ancient admixture between very genetically and sometimes phenotypically distinct groups. Ancient North Eurasian which is found in all Western Eurasians like cadaans at a rate of like 15-35% is like 30% East-Eurasian ("Mongoloid") and it's non-East-Eurasian side is at least 30,000 years genetically separate from the other elements in cadaans like their Western Hunter-Gatherer, and there are hypotheses running around that the ancient MENA in all Western Eurasians carries a minor amount of SSA known as Ancestral North African and that's not even mentioning the phenotypic differences between Anatolian farmers, Western Hunter-Gatherers and the weird fact, for example, that genetically "Australoids" and asiatic "Negroids" like Negritos are genetically closest to East Asians and Southeast Asians rather than some entirely separate race from them that's closer to African "Negroids". It's a term best left in the past. I prefer terminologies like populations, peoples and so forth when discussing ethnic groups in a serious manner outside of normal social situations where everyone sees things in black, white, yellow, brown and whatever other color and that's okay.
