I used to think platonic frienship between the genders was highly improbable, mostly on the male side, for we are easily tempted, if led, by the beauty that is of female species, but then with work colleagues, all bets are off, where one spends more hours of the day with females in the office, esp. where one, or both, are in relationships, and then there develops 'husband-wife' type relationships, where couples even refer to each other as 'work husband, or wife'; this is more true in the gaalo world; I had a sharp lady mathematician, older, and married, as a colleague, and at times, she would even confide in me with her personal problems, which I loathed, for I am not the metro type man, who could listen to marriage minutiae more than five minutes. Intellectually attracted to her, but not in other areas, which further confounded the relationship, esp. where she wanted more than not out of it. In any day of the week, offer me sports, politics, philosophy, or even Biden bashing, as my Republican colleagues often do etc., but not family drama. It might have been different had she not been in a committed relationship, methinks.
Therefore, attraction, and availability are critical factors to consider in the fancing aspect on both, or either side, where if one does not, then one is designated to the acquaintance category, or vice versa.
Adversely I once had a Chinese colleague, who used to manage projects for our team, who was bloody hot on heels, and I always avoided her, lest temptation got the better of me, esp. when we travelled for work, would go out in the evenings for dinner on per diem, mostly 'cos I was the team lead, and was a bit of a lad out about town.
All in all, it is a precarious minefield, and one must excercise caution, esp. in the work environment.
Now, Uni was a different experience altogether, one that which one must never speak of --- except in a 'forgive father, for I have sinned' type setting.
