Can someone explain in basic terms whats happening in Lascanood?

I don’t follow Somali politics at all. Only discovered this because of a tweet earlier in the day. Full disclosure, my entire family from both sides are from Hargeisa. As a kid I hated the idea of a country called Somaliland – it was made up. Somalia with its blue flag and white star is what the world recognised and I shared that belief at that time.

I remember as a kid an elder uncle telling me expressing such opinions would get me into trouble. Fast forward many years later as an adult – I know fully support Somaliland independence. Somalia is a failed state, and unfortunately, I cannot see a future for it, especially since radical Islamist and corrupt qabilist have taken control.

These fightings are exactly the sort of divisions anti-landers want. A reason to damage & delay any hopes of Somalilands established goals for sovereignty. Once chaos and lawlessness spreads, religious fanaticism will spread its tentacles and before you know it – you have another failed Somalia 2.0. Be careful what you wish for.

Dialogue must take place. Somalilands government must respect the locals grievances while they must also respect the SL Govt. security concerns.

So tell me folks, in layman's terms - why are the locals fighting the government?

You should go back to your childhood way of thinking las anod is now completely in the hands of somalia and I suspect this is only the beginning.

Oh and something else I hate people who say they don't follow politics just to have some retarded opinion. If your not familiar with the current status of somalia here's the quick version. The south is eradication terrorism on all fronts and the north is doing the same to seccecionst.

Brief summary. Lasanod is inhabited by the Darood (Dhulbahante subclan) clan while the rest of Somaliland is inhabited by Isaaq. Daroods in Somaliland have always been either sceptical or completely against separatism. Last December after the murder of a prominent figure in Lasanod the people demanded justice and the protests became a generalized protest against the separatist ideology. Somaliland authorities responded by shooting at civilians with live rounds, dozens of people died but the Somaliland army and police left the city. In the last few hours they came back to Lasanod with heavy weapons and they are trying to recapture the city. The anti somaliland protest is spreading all over Solo,Sanaag and Cayn regions. The locals don't want Somaliland for a few reasons: 1) Somaliland is seen as an Isaaq dominated entity, Darood (Dhulbahante in particular) feel marginalized. 2) Sool is a very underdeveloped region in an underdeveloped area like Somaliland, the people feel that Somaliland rule isn't bringing any economic benefit or development 3) Somaliland is brutal and authoritarian and this fuels hate for the separatist regime. People in Lasanod won't forgive their oppressors and killers

Well I’m from boorama, you know full well why people are fighting against somaliland, somalliland’s attitude towards Daroods are why dulbahante against somaliland, there is no culture of hating daroods in boorama but there is everywhere else in somaliland, if they says otherwise they are lying, somaliland’s history is based on daroods oppressing them. Dulbahante feel like they don’t get the right representation in the somaliland government, because of this hate against Darood, there have been active relocation of isaaqs to regions where dulbahante live in order to dilute dulbahante population, as the somaliland state don’t trust them
